  • Winter Preseason clinics and schedules

    Hello all!


    Great to see many new faces for the upcoming winter season! Please refer to the following for reference and also be aware of the upcoming band banquet and winter programs parent meeting. (We will finalize times on Monday and then remind everybody!)


    Monday 12/7/15 Schedule overview:

    Booster meeting at 6:30pm for any parents that want more information about our ongoing programs.

    Winterguard – Regular rehearsal. We will be outside due to a PTA meeting in the cafeteria. Dress appropriately we don’t want anybody sick.

    Winter Perc – Drum line battery rehearsal. Outside going over new exercises. Keek recruiting but remember we want to set the line very soon. Tell anybody that plans to join to be there or we will move on. There is no pit rehearsal – If you guys want to practice it will be individual. Also note the band room is occupied by a booster meeting*

    See you all Monday! We have a lot to get done!



  • 10/3/15 Saturday Rehearsal time change

    Hello all,

    I hope everybody is making plans to come next week on 10/10 to support our BGR marching performance at Cupertino! It will be one of our only local shows this fall season so please come down and enjoy.

    Anyway for tomorrow’s 10/3 Saturday rehearsal we have had some conflicts with our staff schedules so we will be ending rehearsal at 5pm. A summary of the day is as follows and please make arrangements to pick up your kids at 5:10pm.


    Saturday 10/3/15

    8:45am arrive

    9am rehearsal starts

    12:30pm lunch break

    1:30pm rehearsal starts

    5pm rehearsal ends and we dismiss the students

    I will remind the students tomorrow morning in case this email does not reach you.

    Also a reminder that just because we do not have rehearsal does not mean the kids should not be practicing and thinking about their music for the weekend. We have a show in a week and there is still a lot of work to be done.


  • 2015 Fall Marching Band Competition Season underway!

    Hello All!


    Our first few big football games have come and gone. We had a great time performing at the Levi Stadium event and at San Jose State University for Band day, but here comes the real weekend marching business!

    I invite all friends and family to attend our first local competition at Cupertino High School on 10/2/15 next Saturday. The Wilcox Black and Gold Regime will be performing at 4:45pm so come early and check out our rehearsal and the rest of the bands!

    I thank all the boosters for helping make this possible but I know we could always use more support. We will need a few more parents to help with food preparation and serving at Wilcox and for dinner after the show. Carpools are almost finished but we could use a few more drivers for this week and the following competitions. Even parents that come and simply support that band are welcome and greatly appreciated! Cupertino is one of our only local shows so come on by and support!

    Attached are the schedules for the kids and a quick overview for all parents that will be attending/helping us out.

    Summary of 10/2 competition day:

    9am set up for rehearsal

    12pm lunch time – food provided by boosters (or bring your own lunch in addition)

    1:30pm carpools arrive and get read y to travel

    4:30 some parents to help move equipment


    6pm dinner time  – need some help preping and serving food

    8:30pm awards

    9:30pm drive back to WIlcox and 10:30pm finished for the day!


    Let us get those extra helping hands signed up so we can get this show on the road!

  • BGR Marching Band 2015

    Hello All,


    To all the members in the Black and Gold Regime marching band, welcome to back to school for another year of music education! Make sure to again turn in all your paperwork as soon as it’s finished (in my office with the rest of the papers) and a reminder that back to school night is on Wednesday so there is no rehearsal.


    I have sent out a mass email to all students and parents in marching band with this reminder but if you did NOT receive an email (check your spam folder) then please contact me at  bgr@wilcoxmusic.org to get yourself on the marching band information list.


    There is a booster meeting tomorrow in the band room at 6:30pm for any parent that wishes to be more involved with our music program. We will be discussing upcoming events such as Art and Wine Festival, fundraiser preparation, marching band schedule, music finances, booster board position, and many more items that directly influence your child’s education. I hope to see many new faces that wish to join our booster program!

  • Welcome back to School 2015!

    It’s great to see many new faces in our music program and the turnout for marching band members looks very promising this year! Although we are still in Class A division as a band we are still growing in numbers and it seems this may be the largest front ensemble/drum section we have at Wilcox in many many years.



    Thank you again to all the parents that came to our meeting. For anybody that missed the meeting please go to our download area and grab all the forms. You should download and complete the following items by Friday (or Monday if you have more questions) for all marching band members: (Download link at bottom of page)

    • Marching Band Contract
    • Image Release form
    • Medical form (Try and complete as soon as possible, you might have to dig up your medical records for past TB, tetnus, and other vaccination shots) I will need this completed by all members before we can perform in any event.

    Other forms that you should have on hand are the marching band calendar and booster members chart. Double check your calendars for conflicts in our rehearsal/performance schedule. Any absences must be approved in advance and will require parent to staff communication for verification. Missing/tardiness for any event without notification will result in many phone calls and searching for lost children.


    Also  note that we still need a lot of parent help to be able to run our program and the most immediate needs are as follows:

    • Carpool driver signups (And trailer truck drivers)
    • Help with cleaning and adjusting marching uniforms
    • Help with a pit percussion rack construction, sound mixer donations, and over backdrop prop visual items
    • Direct dollar donations can be made by check towards “Wilcox Instrumental Music Boosters” and be collected by myself, Mr. South, or our booster president Starr Koga

    Finally make sure your child has the following items as they are needed for every rehearsal/performance:

    1. Water bottle (20oz. bottles are  portable but generally are too small for a long rehearsal)
    2. Drill/dot book (small hand sized binded index cards or booklets that you will take notes on and write movement coordinates)
    3. Pencils to write drill and or adjust music parts
    4. A Lyre to hold your music while playing (marching and pep band both need these)
    5. And a black polo/collared shirt for use as a travel uniform/coordinated dress code for performances

  • It’s time for Back to School 2015!

    Have fun with the rest of your Summer! Be ready for rehearsals once school starts! Another reminder that there is a marching band parent meeting on Wednesday August 26th at 7:30pm-8:30pm (it is during our rehearsal schedule so make sure your parents have that time set aside and then they can drive you home afterwards)


    We have rehearsals on August 24, 26, 28 for all marching and concert members so have your athletic clothes prepared and be ready to learn/review how to march. Full visual rehearsals are crucial for our season!


    And as always, rehearsal is where the group gets better! Individual practice is for you to get better!

  • We lived through 2015 Band Camp!

    Thank you everybody for another successful band camp this year! The horns/winds made a lot of progress in their music and survived another week of craziness. Colorguard is working hard and will be continuing their training on new equipment work for the rest of the summer as well. Finally it was good to see some incoming talent from the percussion section although there is still plenty of room for more members! Talk to your friends and classmates from around the school and see if they want to join our marching band!

    I would also like to thank all the parents that came out for the Friday performance to support our growing sound. It is a real pleasure to have such supporting families for our program that want to help us get better. Again we would love to have some of the newer families joining us this year to also be a part of our boosters program.

    The Wilcox Instrumental Music Boosters (WIMB) help maintain all the behind the scenes logistics that make our music programs run. These items include organizing fundraisers, managing finances, running bake sales, figuring out carpools, and also fun stuff like throwing end of season parties and cheering for our performances. If you would like to be a part of our booster program please join our next meeting on Tuesday September 1st at 6:30pm in the band room (room M100)! Or email myself or our 2015 president Starr Koga!


    Finally another reminder for all the marching band students:

    • Recruit more members! We want to have at least 2 more front ensemble members, 2 bass drums, a few more hornline and anybody that wants to dance in the colorguard!
    • Learn your music! We need to have everything ready to go by the time school starts so we can start learning how to march on the field!
    • Get some exercise over the summer! Stay healthy because this show has some difficult passages that are much easier if you build up your stamina now!
